The Chapel of Trinity College Dublin

The Chapel of Trinity College Dublin was designed by William Chambers and opened for public worship in 1798. Its external appearance is very similar to that of the Examination Hall with the matching Corinthian temple fronts, with rich cornices and pediments, lending symmetry to Front Square. Internally, wood plays an important part with the original oak pews facing inwards in the collegiate pattern. The superb neo-classical plasterwork was executed by Michael Stapleton, the distinguished stuccodore. The total cost of the building was £23,500. Unique amongst sacred spaces in Ireland, the Chapel is shared by all the Christian Churches and is a popular venue for inter-church weddings.
