Support Act

Recent Festival developmental projects such as masterclasses and school workshops, which proved so beneficial, have, because of financial constraints, been somewhat curtailed this year. Hopefully, in better times we can pick up where we left off and retain them as an integral part of Music in Great Irish Houses! In the meantime, through the generosity of Festival artists, emerging Irish musicians will benefit from “Support Act”, a new training and mentoring project.

Over the last two Festivals, visiting international artists have witnessed firsthand the burgeoning musical talent that is now part of everyday life in Ireland. Their positive feedback sowed the seed for “Support Act”, a mentoring and tutoring programme for emerging chamber music groups of varying combinations led by
Festival artists.

For the inaugural project, pianist Philippe Cassard and violinist Laura Samuel of the Belcea Quartet will share their experiences both on- and off-stage with selected chamber music groups, tutoring and mentoring them in preparation for a Festival public concert in the National Gallery of Ireland on June 11th, 12th and 13th.

In addition, these and many other musicians will benefit from the practical and professional guidance of an artists’ manager who will conduct an open seminar, offering advice on the broader aspects of performing life. This will take place during Festival week!
