Music from Terezín
The historic Baroque Chapel of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham is the striking setting for the Festival’s “opening night” which highlights music from the Terezín Concentration Camp. Following a hugely successful and critically acclaimed performance at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris last year, musicians Dearbhla Collins, Dermot Dunne, Katherine Hunka and Lynda Lee, collaborate again to present music from the immeasurable creative potential of the ostracised avant-garde that was stifled and suppressed in Terezín in World War II.
For this special performance, directed by Tom Creed, they are joined by the prolific Irish actor Barry McGovern. 70 years after the first convoy of prisoners arrived in Terezín in November 1941, these distinguished artists both remember and celebrate the music of those for whom creation was survival.
