MUSIC IN GREAT IRISH HOUSES is the longest running chamber music festival in Ireland.
It
was founded almost 40 years ago in Castletown House, Co. Kildare. Since then audiences have enjoyed the unique experience of hearing some of the world’s leading musicians play masterpieces from the chamber music repertoire in the intimate settings of the country’s splendid historic homes and buildings. The houses, built in centuries past for wealthy and Anglo-Irish families, many of them titled, provide exactly the kind of environment for which much of that music was originally written.
The KBC Music in Great Irish Houses Festival has become one of the most popular and important events in the Irish classical music calendar and in addition is a social and friendly
gathering for music lovers each June.

The current climate of economic turbulence sent a ripple of concern through many arts organisations, including ours. Therefore, it was a great relief and joy when KBC Bank Ireland (formerly IIB Bank)
unhesitatingly kept faith with us, enabling Ireland’s oldest chamber music festival to take to the roads again
this June. Long-time highlight of the Irish summer music calendar, the renamed KBC Music in Great Irish
Houses Festival will run from June 7th to 13th this year...

Artistic Director's Introduction
On the eve of our landmark anniversary year, I am delighted to present a
Festival which I am sure will whet musical appetites for our big 4-0
celebrations in 2010, and also underpins the pre-eminent position of Music in Great Irish Houses, after all
these years.
A feast of quartet playing, an emphasis on that most sonorous of instruments, the cello, and the programming
of many familiar faces from home and abroad are at the heart of this year’s Festival...
